Pamela Druckerman

Pamela Druckerman is an American journalist and author. She is best known for her books, French Children Don’t Throw Food and Bringing Up Bebe. Druckerman is a humorous and thoughtful observer of cultural differences between the U.S. and Europe, particularly between France and the U.S. She has an eye for detail, often finding hilarious and endearing stories about parenting.

Druckerman was born in New York City and raised in Scarsdale, New York, then from the age of twelve, she lived in Paris, France. She attended the Paris American Academy, the Lycée Français, then went on to receive a BA from Columbia University and a Master’s in US History from the London School of Economics. Upon graduating, Druckerman worked as a research assistant at PBS Frontline and as a reporter for The Wall Street Journal.

At the start of her career, Druckerman wrote pieces in The Wall Street Journal and The International Herald Tribune, then in 2003, she moved to Paris and started writing long-form non-fiction feature articles. Besides writing, Druckerman also hosted a public radio show in Paris featuring interviews with Americans living abroad. In 2011, she published her first book, French Children Don’t Throw Food. In this book, Druckerman shares her observations of French society and parenting styles, as well as her own journey to raise her children by French principles. The book was a great success, selling three million copies and translated in thirty languages.

In 2017, Druckerman released her second book, Bringing Up Bebe. In this book, she expands on the ideas from her first book and provides parents with detailed guidance on how to apply French parenting principles. The book is a humorous and heartfelt look at the differences between French and American parenting, and how French-style parenting strategies can help parents raise calm, confident and independent children.

Druckerman’s writing has been praised for bringing humor and insight to challenging questions of parenting and childhood. She has been featured in Time, the New Yorker, and The New York Times and has appeared on many television shows such as The Daily Show, Good Morning America and NPR’s Morning Edition.

In addition to her successful writing career, Druckerman has also pursued numerous other activities. She is a popular public speaker, a co-founder of the parenting website Mamanologue, and the founder of the consulting firm, Seize the Parenting. Through her writing, speaking, and consulting, Druckerman has helped to make the study of parenting and childhood accessible and enjoyable for millions of people.
