Parker J. Palmer is an internationally-renowned writer, speaker, teacher, and activist in the fields of education and spirituality. Parker J. Palmer was born in 1939 in Chicago and raised in the suburbs. He holds several degrees, including a Bachelor of Divinity from The University of Chicago and a Doctor of Philosophy in Social Ethics from Harvard Divinity School. After graduating from Harvard, he taught in both churches and universities across the United States, eventually becoming professor and chair of the Religious Studies Department at Illinois’s Mundelein College.

The Courage to Teach is Palmer’s most renowned work. The book explores the spiritual dimension of teaching, challenging teachers’ beliefs and suggesting that teaching is a call to an inner journey of discovery.
