Paul Shapiro

Paul Shapiro is an American author, journalist, and software engineer who has published numerous non-fiction books on a variety of topics, such as business, end-of-life planning, and technology. He also writes and produce documentaries, consults on major projects, and is an active public speaker.

Shapiro's career began in a unique way. After graduating from Rice University in Texas, he was working as an environmental lawyer when he decided to follow his passion for writing instead. This led to a six-year stint as an investigative journalist and editor of the Hartford Advocate newspaper in Connecticut, during which time he wrote about business, politics, and crime. His work was noticed by the New York Times, and he also wrote for magazines such as The Atlantic, The New Yorker, and Harper’s.

In 2003, Shapiro released his first book, Leashes and Lovers, which he co-authored with his wife. He followed this up with his first solo book, the non-fiction title Waiting Til the Midnight Hour, which was published in 2006 and was nominated for an NAACP Image Award. In 2009, he releasedClean Meat, a book about the future of animal farming, and in 2014, he released another solo non-fiction book, The Most Good You Can Do, focusing on how to use philanthropy as an effective tool for social change.

Shapiro has also written and produced several documentaries. In 2010, he co-wrote, co-directed, and narrated the feature-length environmental documentary Greening the Revolution. He has also co-directed the feature-length sustainable food documentary Reaping the Rewards, as well as directed and executive produced the award-winning digital series for animal protection Change for Animals.

In addition to his work as an author and filmmaker, Shapiro also consults on major projects, such as the Paul G. A. Frank Center for Corporate Responsibility at the Yale School of Management. He is also an active public speaker, addressing diverse audiences at Venture for America, the Yale Sustainable Food Program, and the Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs, among others.

Since beginning his career, Shapiro has made a name for himself as one of the top authors writing about a range of important subjects. His books and documentaries combine facts, technical knowledge, and moral inquiry to explore the history of the United States and challenge the status quo. Furthermore, he is an inspiring public figure, helping others to make a difference in their communities and tackle real-world issues.
