Peter Baker

Peter Baker is an award-winning journalist and author. He has had a long, impressive career that has seen him report on some of the world’s most important news stories. Baker has written multiple books, including The Breach: Inside the Impeachment and Trial of William Jefferson Clinton and Day of Fire: The Hunt for Al-Qaeda and the Cause of Global Terror. He has also penned stories for The New York Times, The Atlantic, and The Washington Post, where he is currently a White House correspondent.

Baker was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. He attended the University of Michigan and studied economics. After graduating, he worked for The Associated Press in Lansing, Michigan, and then moved to Chicago to work for The Chicago Sun-Times. It was in Chicago that Baker’s career really started to take off. He wrote articles about U.S. federal court cases and other significant news stories, winning awards in the process.

Baker moved to Washington, D.C. in 1996 to become a national correspondent for The Washington Post. The Breach: Inside the Impeachment and Trial of William Jefferson Clinton was published in 2000 and is a comprehensive account of President Clinton’s impeachment and trial. Baker spent two years researching and writing the book. It was a New York Times bestseller and received glowing reviews from critics.

Day of Fire: The Hunt for Al-Qaeda and the Cause of Global Terror was published in 2003. It is a behind-the-scenes look at the search for Osama bin Laden and the evolution of the war on terror. It too was a New York Times bestseller and won Baker the Overseas Press Club’s Cornelius Ryan Award for best book on international affairs.

In addition to The Breach and Day of Fire, Baker has written a number of other notable books, including The President and the Apprentice: Dwight Eisenhower and Ronald Reagan; Russia’s Iron Age: The Rise and Fall of Vladimir Putin; and Obama: The Call of History. He is also the co-author of the book, Obama: The Call of History (2015). This book was a New York Times bestseller and explores the life and accomplishments of Barack Obama.
