Peter Bodo

Peter Bodo is a renowned author and seasoned journalist who has been writing about professional tennis for more than 35 years. He is recognized for his countless features, columns and articles in The New York Times, FoxSports.com, Tennis Magazine, Tennis Week and ESPN. Aside from his long career in sports journalism, he has also published three books – Breaking Back: How I Lost Everything and Won Back My Life, The Tennis Rebels: An Intimate Portrait of the Pro Tour and Tennis Battles: Classic Rivalries.

Born in 1961, Peter Bodo began his career writing for weekly newspapers in New Jersey during the late 1970’s, before transitioning to Tennis Magazine in 1980. Bodo quickly became one of Tennis Magazine’s most valued staffers, thus setting the precedent for a highly successful journey in sports writing. Although he received his Masters in Philosophy from Brandeis University, his love for tennis and passion for writing drove him towards a career in sports journalism.

As a staff writer, Peter Bodo focused mainly on covering professional tennis tournaments, players and the sport as a whole. His keen eye for detail and unique ability to decipher the game was evident in each of his features and articles. From exhausting Wimbledon championships to the record-breaking triumphs of the legendary Navratilova and Agassi eras, Peter Bodo has reported on them all. Bodo has traveled to over 100 countries following the sport, including a stint as the tennis writer for The New York Times.

The Tennis Rebels: An Intimate Portrait of the Pro Tour is Peter Bodo’s third book and was released in 2006. This was a markedly different book from his previous works, as he captures the lives of the young tennis rebels on the tour at the time. Each of the eight chapters detail a certain player or players within the context of their lifestyle and personal stories of the escapades of their tour lives. This book was first heavily reported before it reached the ‘writing’ stage, as Peter Bodo walked alongside tour players and observed them competing on the courts, as well as off it.

Following the success of this book, Bodo has enhanced his portfolio as one of the most influential writers and reporters of the sport. He continues to write for a range of media outlets, including FoxSports.com, The New York Times and a few other special projects. Alongside his work as a journalist and author, Peter Bodo is also an experienced public speaker and lecturer. He has conducted numerous speaking engagements throughout the United States and Europe, discussing his vast experience in the industry.

In the five decades since he first started writing about professional tennis, Peter Bodo has contributed an immense amount to the sport. His works have documented the lives and journeys of various legendary players, while his books have unpacked the culture of this scientific game and the young players who have taken it global. His vast experiences have established Peter Bodo as one of the leading tennis journalists in the world, authoring and writing some of the most comprehensive and detailed pieces of the game ever seen.
