Peter Kaufman
Peter Kaufman is a Pulitzer Prize winning reporter, author, journalist, and fan of the written word. He writes books and articles on a wide range of topics, and has received numerous awards including the Pulitzer Prize for his investigative reporting.
Kaufman was born in 1966 in New York City. He was educated at Princeton University and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. His first book was published in 1994, and since then he has penned biographies, books about the history of America, sports, popular culture, and crime. He lives in Brooklyn, New York, with his wife and two children.
Kaufman's journalism career has spanned three decades. He has written for The New York Times, The Boston Globe, Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, and many other notable publications. He has also done television and radio commentary for various networks, as well as documentaries for PBS, National Geographic and the Discovery Channel. His book, “The King of Possibilities: A Life of Abraham Lincoln,” won the Pulitzer Prize for History in 2000.
Kaufman is most famous for writing biographies and other personal histories. His first biography was “The Brilliant Life of Benjamin Franklin,” which was well received. Other books written by Kaufman include: “Thomas Jefferson: Revolutionary,” “Barry Bonds: The Life of an American Outlaw,” “A Perfect Union: Oswald and the Assassination of President Kennedy,” “Teddy Roosevelt and the Rise of the Square Deal,” “The Life and Times of Harry Truman,” “The Man Who Fell from the Sky: A Profile of Howard Hughes,” “My Heart Is an Idiot: Getting Lost in America,” and “The Accidental President: Harry Truman and the Four Months that Changed the World.”
Kaufman has also written books about various aspects of crime, such as “Killer Dads: The Twisted Minds Behind Family Annihilators,” “Deadly Passion: The Famous Love Affairs that Shaped History,” “The Accidental Assassin: The Shocking True Story of How a Gang Leader Tried To Kill a President,” and many more.
In addition to writing his own books, Kaufman is an editor at Random House. In this position, he oversees many of the books that the publishing house puts out. He also works as an editor-at-large for the literary website, Literary Hub.
