Philip Pullman
Philip Pullman is a highly respected and renowned author of children's fantasy fiction. His critically acclaimed works are known for their captivating story lines, intricate plots, and thought-provoking themes. Pullman was born in Norwich, England, in 1946. After working as a teacher for several years, he wrote his first book, The Ruby in the Smoke, which was published in 1985. This work introduced the vivacious Molly and intrepid Sally Lockhart, two of Pullman's best known characters.
While his first book contained elements of two genres—detective fiction and romance—Pullman quickly found his niche in children's fantasy fiction with the publication of his second book, The Shadow in the North, in 1986. In the same year, Pullman wrote the first book in his iconic His Dark Materials trilogy: Northern Lights, which was later adapted in to a film, The Golden Compass, starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig.
The His Dark Materials trilogy follows a group of courageous children as they set out on an epic quest to save a mystical world. Throughout their journey, they encounter a host of fantastic characters and are taken on a thought-provoking exploration of physics, philosophy, and religion. The series has been praised as a modern fantasy classic and has been translated into over 40 languages.
