Rich Lowry

A fixture on the political map, Rich Lowry is one of today's most respected conservative thinkers. He is editor of National Review and a syndicated columnist. Aside from his political work, he is also the author of four books: Legacy: Paying the Price for the Clinton Years; The Case for Nationalism; and most recently, The Case for Trump.

Lowry was born in Arlington, Virginia in 1968, and grew up in Trenton and Hamilton, New Jersey. He attended the University of Virginia, earning his BA in History in 1991. Following graduation, Rich Lowry spent time working for the Richmond Times-Dispatch, The Philadelphia Inquirer and The Washington Times, as well as numerous radio and television stations throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

Rich Lowry first gained prominence in 1997 when he became editor of National Review, a conservative magazine founded by William F. Buckley Jr in 1955. As editor, Lowry has gained a reputation as a fierce and articulate opponent of Political Correctness, while also advocating for “common sense conservatism.”

In 2000, Lowry published his first book — Legacy: Paying the Price for the Clinton Years — in which he takes the former President and his Administration to task for their “abandonment of common sense and discipline in the face of shifting fads.” The book earned Rich Lowry glowing reviews from outlets ranging from the Wall Street Journal to The New Yorker, who deemed it an “engrossing mix of broad policy prescriptions and gossipy stories.”

In 2015, Lowry released The Case for Nationalism, a work which, according to the Washington Post’s review, seeks to challenge “the notion that national identity is antiquated and tyrannical.” Rich Lowry makes the case that “nationalism can be enlightened, rather than oppressive.”

In 2019, Lowry took on Donald Trump in The Case for Trump. Of the President, Lowry writes: “His bluntness, passion, and textured connection with working-class voters helped him cut through politically correct elites to win the White House.” The book was a New York Times’ bestseller and The Associated Press called it “persuasive.”

Aside from his published works, Rich Lowry is a frequent political pundit, appearing regularly on cable news networks including Fox News and CNN. Lowry is also well known for his frequent criticism of progressives and his support for mainstream conservative positions.

Today, Rich Lowry continues to lead National Review while furthering his career as an in-demand author, speaker, and political commentator. With four books under his belt, Lowry has firmly established himself as one of the most recognizable conservative minds of our time.
