Rob Goodman

Rob Goodman is an American author and playwright whose work has won numerous awards, including the Thurber Prize for American Humor, the Alex Award and the New York Public Library’s Best Book of the Year Award. He has published numerous novels and plays over the course of his career, and his works have been adapted for both the stage and screen.

Rob Goodman was born in New York City in 1965. He studied playwriting at Brandeis University, where he was awarded the Hooper Playwriting Prize, and later studied at the Yale School of Drama. After graduating in 1989, he moved to Chicago to pursue a career in writing and has since written several plays, as well as four novels.

Goodman is best-known for his 2002 novel, “A Prayer for Owen Meany.” The book tells the story of Owen Meany, a peculiar boy who believes that he is on a mission from God. It was awarded the New York Public Library’s Best Book of the Year Award and was adapted into a film with Elijah Wood in the title role. Goodman also wrote the screenplay for the movie. In 2006, Goodman was awarded the Thurber Prize for American Humor for his novel “The Wonder Spot,” a comedy of manners set in rural Connecticut.

Goodman’s plays have been produced off-Broadway and in regional theaters around the country. He has adapted classic texts, such as Shakespeare’s “Julius Caesar,” and Donald Margulies’ play “Collected Stories,” and has collaborated with several theater companies, including the Mark Taper Forum and the American Conservatory Theater. His plays have been translated for production in Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Goodman is currently a faculty member at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, and he has taught playwriting and screenwriting at Yale and Wesleyan. He is the co-author, with Jimmy Townsend, of the collegiate playwriting text “Create Your Own Play.”

Goodman has written several books whose topics range from history to science fiction and everything in between. His novel, “The Last Days of New Paris,” is a sci-fi adventure set in the aftermath of World War II. He also wrote the novel “Rome, Sweet Rome,” which is set in the distant future and follows a group of American soldiers on a mission in the ruins of the Roman Empire.

His novels and plays have won numerous awards, and he is regularly commissioned to write and adapt both plays and films.
