Robert J. Shiller

Robert J. Shiller, one of the most well-known economists in the world and Nobel Prize winner, is widely regarded as an innovative thinker who has made a lasting contribution to the study of investing, finance, and macroeconomics. Born in Detroit, Michigan in 1947, Shiller is best known for his pioneering and influential work on “behavioral economics,” a field of research that uses psychology to analyze and evaluate economic decisions made by consumers and other individuals.

Shiller’s studies ventured into various areas, including stock market behavior, real estate and financial markets. He took an empirical approach to the markets, studying the macroeconomic building blocks of today’s economic systems. To gain a better understanding of the financial markets, he engaged in a novel kind of quantitative study – one of the first of its kind. Other economists soon recognized his work as revolutionary, and it has since been widely accepted as the standard for economic research.

Shiller is also well-known for his writings, which include numerous bestselling books such as Irrational Exuberance, The Subprime Solution, and, most recently, Narrative Economics. While these publications all tackle different topics, they all demonstrate Shiller’s ability to analyze market data and figure out the complex connections between the most pressing market trends. Shiller’s books have served as valuable resources for investors and financial professionals for decades, as well as for the public at large.

In addition to his work in the field of economics, Shiller has made important contributions to public policy. He founded the online financial newsletter, “The Irrational Exuberance Newsletter”, with the aim of providing sound investment advice to clients. Shiller has also advised the US government, specifically on issues related to the housing bubble and the current US economy. His work in this area has also been well-received and highly influential.

Beyond his professional contributions, Shiller has received numerous awards and accolades, including the John Bates Clark Medal, the Andrew McLanesh Award, and the Nobel Prize in Economics. He received an honorary doctorate from Harvard University in 2005 and was inducted into the National Academy of Sciences in 2013.

Shiller is currently the Sterling Professor of Economics at Yale University, and the chief economist at MacroMarkets LLC. Throughout his career, he has continued to publish research papers and co-write books, and his works have been credited with helping people better understand the complex interplay between economics, finance, and other areas of research and public policy. In 2011, he was awarded the Goldman Sachs Global Leader in Innovation Award for his revolutionary work in macroeconomics.

It is clear that Robert J. Shiller has made an impressive contribution to the study of economics and finance. His innovative work has helped millions of people around the world better understand the economy, invest intelligently, and gain insights on public policy issues. He will likely continue to influence the field of economics for years to come.
