Roger Martin

Roger Martin is one of the most respected authors in business literature. He is an accomplished business theorist and management consultant, a professor at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management, and the author of 11 best-selling books. Martin has become known for his pioneering work in the field of “integrative thinking,” finding logical solutions to complex problems. His most popular book is 'The Opposable Mind: Winning Through Integrative Thinking' which is widely acclaimed as one of the most influential books on modern business.

Martin was born and raised in Toronto. He attended Harvard University and the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University before joining the Rotman School in 1993. He has since become a professor of Strategic Management and played a major role in the overhaul of the school’s MBA curriculum. He also served as dean from 1998 to 2013.

Martin’s books focus on the “whole-brain” approach to problem-solving and management. In The Opposable Mind: Winning Through Integrative Thinking, he argues that businesses can succeed in an increasingly complex world by using both analytical and intuitive modes of thinking. He also specifies situations in which the use of one approach is more effective, and explains ways to combine the two for maximum benefit.

In The Design of Business: Why Design Thinking is the Next Competitive Advantage, Martin explains the open-ended nature of design and argues that embracing design-oriented processes can make organizations more profitable. He also suggests tools and techniques to increase competitive advantage while reducing costs.

Martin has also written a number of books that focus on organizational culture, strategic management and leadership. For instance, he wrote 'The Real Story of Risk: Adventures in a Hazardous World' to explore modern risk and how it can be managed. In his book Strategy: Winning in the Marketplace, he explains how to identify and leverage strategic competencies to gain a competitive edge.

In recent years, Martin has focused his work on issues of sustainability. He argues that corporations can improve their bottom lines by taking an environment-first approach to their operations. He writes about the potential risks associated with a lack of sustainability as well as the potential rewards of taking an ecologically conscious approach. His book, 'Creating Extraordinary Value from Sustainable Business', outlines the concept of sustainability and shows how companies can use it to achieve success.

Roger Martin is one of the most influential authors in the world of business. His books have been instrumental in shaping corporate thinking and driving advances in management theory. His most popular book, The Opposable Mind, is a must-read for any aspiring business leader who wishes to understand the power of integrative thinking. By taking risk and embracing design-oriented processes, Martin argues that businesses and organizations can gain an edge over the competition and ensure long-term viability and success.
