Seth Godin

Seth Godin is one of the most influential business minds of the 21st century and is arguably one of the most celebrated authors of all time. He is the author of eighteen books on the topics of marketing and leadership, including bestsellers such as “Linchpin”, “Permission Marketing” and “The Dip”. In addition to his writing career, Godin is an entrepreneur and the founder of multiple successful companies including Squidoo, a crowdsourced platform for creating content, and Yoyodyne, maker of promotional games.

Godin’s high school years were spent in Massachusetts and Connecticut, but he never saw himself going to college until he heard an inspiring speech from a former headmaster of Andover, a privately funded high school in Massachusetts. After his time spent there, he eventually studied in Potomac, Maryland and later graduate school, at Stanford.

Godin's career began in direct-mail marketing which led him to found Yoyodyne, an online promotional gaming company in 1995. During his time here, he coined the phrase ‘permission marketing’, which means designing advertisements around the idea of granting people permission to view them. Eventually, Yoyodyne was sold to Yahoo! for $30 million and Godin was responsible for the launch of three other successful companies, CardTable, Squidoo and The Domino Project.

The philosophy of challenging traditional ways of thinking resonates throughout his books. He challenges leaders to think outside the box when it comes to crafting a work-life balance and emphasizes the importance of personal growth and development. In “Linchpin”, he emphasizes the importance of unlearning old ways of thinking and stepping outside our comfort zone to become indispensable to our organization. In his 2011 book, “The Dip: A Little Book That Teaches You When to Quit (and When to Stick)”, Godin encourages people to push their limits, go above and beyond when necessary, but also step away when the situation isn't worth fighting for.

Godin has also been notable in the world of digital media, becoming one of the most followed marketing-related bloggers on the internet, and often appearing on TV or radio. He is an advisor to startups and speaks on topics such as leadership, disruptive innovation, creative collaboration, and marketing at many renowned conferences across the globe. Seth Godin serves as the leader of The Domino Project, which is a publishing company that he started in 2011.

Seth Godin’s books have inspired a generation of entrepreneurs, creating an entirely new world for the marketing professional. His books champion creativity, innovation, and leadership and have been credited as the by-word of modern marketing. Through his groundbreaking ideas, Godin has made a lasting legacy within the business world, and his books have been praised globally.
