Seth Grahame-Smith is a bestselling American novelist, screenwriter, producer, and director known for his bold take on classic literature. He has written, co-written, and produced such films as Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012), Dark Shadows (2012), and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016).

Grahame-Smith was born in Rockville Centre, New York, in 1976, and grew up in Carlsbad, California. He attended the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he earned a degree in film and video production in 1997.

Grahame-Smith's first novel, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, was first published in 2009, and instantly rocketed to the New York Times bestseller list. This book was adapted into a feature film in 2016 and served as the directorial debut for Grahame-Smith. It became the highest-grossing adaptation of an epistolary novel ever.

Grahame-Smith followed up this success with more parodies of classic literature, including Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, which served as the basis for a feature film of the same name. The novel mixed historical fiction with fantasy, making Grahame-Smith’s creative take on literature accessible to all.

In 2012, Grahame-Smith wrote and executive produced the big-budget film Dark Shadows, starring Johnny Depp. The film was a re-imagining of the popular 1966–1971 gothic soap opera of the same name.

Grahame-Smith has co-written the scripts for The LEGO Batman Movie (2017) and Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation (2018), and he is also set to write the screenplay for The Flash.

In addition to his fiction writing, Grahame-Smith is also an accomplished author of non-fiction works. He wrote Unholy Night (2012), a novel telling the true story of a group of marauders who escaped from the slaughter of the Innocents in Bethlehem.

Grahame-Smith has also written The Presidents vs. Aliens, a comedic book in which the leaders of the United States work together to battle aliens and save the planet, as well as The Hard Times, a comic adaptation of Michael Hinton’s play about the Great Depression.

Grahame-Smith’s latest novel is The Last American Vampire (2015), a continuation of the story he began with Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. It follows the young vampire, Henry Sturges, on an adventure as he searches for a mysterious substance called vespertine that may be able to save his species from extinction.
