Stephen Joseph
Stephen Joseph is a prolific and influential contemporary author who has written books in a range of genres, including contemporary fiction, historical fiction, non-fiction and children’s literature. He is best known for his novels “The Shadow Man”, “Shadows of the Night” and “The Penitence”.
He was born in London, England in 1967 and grew up in the East End. His parents were middle-class Jewish immigrants who had moved to London in the 1950s. As a boy, he was a voracious reader, devouring everything from Kipling to Dostoevsky, and developing an early interest in writing. In his early teens, Stephen visited the local library regularly, often staying until the library closed. His parents sent him to a private school as he was an intellectually curious student, which inspired him to continue writing and reading throughout his academic career.

In recent years, he has lectured on writing, literature and culture all around the world, including in Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States. Stephen has also served as the judge for several prestigious literary awards, including the Man Booker Prize.
