Steve Jamison
Steve Jamison is an acclaimed non-fiction author and journalist who has written extensively in the fields of history, biography, and sports. Born and raised in rural Pennsylvania, Jamison has written offbeat books on a variety of subjects, from famous athletes to overlooked leaders in American history. Jamison’s work is characterized by an emphasis on detail, analysis, and narrative tension, which he describes as “the art of stringing words together in such a way that the reader is compelled to keep reading.”
Jamison began his career as a reporter, covering sports for newspapers and magazines. However, after leaving journalism for the corporate world, he returned to writing in the late 1980s. He then penned a number of books, often focusing on overlooked figures from different corners of history and culture. These include books such as "Firms of Endearment: How World-Class Companies Profit from Passion and Purpose," as well as “Old School: America’s Most Challenging and Innovative Coaches.”
Jamison’s most renowned book, however, may be “Take Two: A Celebration of Twins.” Released in 2003, this book is an intimate, detailed exploration of the unique way twin siblings relate to one another. Jamison looks at everything from the genetic links and environmental forces that shape the early development of twins, to their life events and how they interact as adults. Filled with candid interviews and original, thoughtful analysis, “Take Two” earned rave reviews, as well as awards from both the American Psychological Association and the Society of Professional Journalists.
Jamison has also written extensively about sports, having authored 13 different books on the subject. He often intertwines his sports coverage with his deep knowledge of history and American culture, in books like “The Golden Age of Sports: Baseball, Football, and Basketball in the 1940s and 1950s.” Jamison takes an interesting angle, examining this era based on its impact on the US population, from baseball’s influence in the integration of society to the popularity of football due to booming spectator attendance.
In addition to his book writing, Jamison works as a consultant, helping companies develop their marketing strategy. He's also a keen advocate for the environment, having donated money to numerous causes that focus on preserving natural resources and combating climate change.
In his career, Jamison has won awards and critical acclaim for his work.
