Steven Lee Myers

Steven Lee Myers is an author of non-fiction and literary fiction who has written a number of books on a range of topics, including a biography of Vladimir Putin and other Russia-related works, as well as stories of personal discovery.

Steven Lee Myers was born in Phoenix, Arizona in 1959. He received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Arizona in 1981, and began freelancing for The Arizona Republic after graduation. He wrote for various publications, and eventually became a regular contributor to The New Yorker in 1987.

In 1996, he left The New Yorker and moved to Moscow, Russia to work as a foreign correspondent for The New York Times. He spent several years in the Russian capital, which served as the backdrop for much of his non-fiction writing. During this period, he wrote a biography of Russian President Vladimir Putin, entitled “The New Tsar: The Rise and Reign of Vladimir Putin.”

Myers also wrote a book about his experience in Russia, “The New Passport: An American Travels Through Russia.” This book details his time spent living and working in Moscow during the tumultuous period of post-Soviet reform.

In addition to writing about Russia, Myers wrote the critically acclaimed travelogue “The Expats: American Expats in D.C.” This book follows Myers’ experience as an American living in Washington, D.C., and includes interviews and stories from many of his fellow expats.

In 2004, Myers returned to the United States, where he began writing fiction. He published a collection of short stories entitled “Prospects,” as well as a novel “My Father’s Paradise” which chronicles the story of a father and daughter’s journey towards self-discovery.

Myers’ most recent works include the non-fiction book “The Global War on Morris” and the novel “The Fish and the Dove.” With “The Global War on Morris,” Myers reviews the surveillance tactics of the United States government following the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001. “The Fish and the Dove” is a story of love and lost hope, as two people from very different backgrounds try to make a life together.

Throughout his career, Steven Lee Myers has received acclaim for his writing style and unique perspectives. He has been nominated for several awards, including a Pulitzer Prize, and his works have been published in a number of prestigious magazines and journals. Much of his writing offers an engaging yet honest look at important topics of the day, and his personal experience in Russia offers an especially intimate look at a crucial time in the history of that country.
