Steven R. Gundry, MD, is a renowned cardiac surgeon who has dedicated his career to helping others better their health and wellbeing. He is the best-selling author of numerous books purporting to help people live their healthiest, happiest lives.

Gundry is a board-certified heart surgeon and former Associate Professor at Stanford University Medical School. He was born in Sapulpa, Oklahoma in 1950. His career in medicine began as a freshman at Yale University, as he studied molecular biophysics and biochemistry. Following this, he earned his MD from Harvard Medical School, and subsequently his PhD from the University of Utah College of Medicine in 1985. Subsequently, he completed his Cardiovascular and Thoracic surgery training at Stanford Medical Center. During his time there, he progressed to the professor rank, and achieved national and international recognition for his accomplishments in cardiac surgery.

Upon completion of his studies and medical trainings, Dr. Gundry’s life-long passion for health and nutrition information led him to establish the Center for Restorative Medicine, a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals in Palm Springs, California. Through his teaching and research, he developed the concept of ‘Gundry-style nutrition’, a diet and lifestyle approach focusing on plant-based eating and conscious living. Since this, he has published multiple books on improving health and wellness.

Gundry’s most successful work is The Plant Paradox, which went on to become a New York Times Bestseller, and has been translated into 17 languages. In The Plant Paradox, he argues that many of the vegetable and fruits we commonly consume contain hidden toxins due to their lectin content. According to Dr. Gundry, these toxins can cause people a host of health problems, including weight-gain, chronic inflammation and mood disorders. To illustrate this, he established the Plant Paradox pantry, which provides science-backed advice to help people make smarter food choices.

Gundry has also written The Longevity Paradox, which details the impact of ‘geroprotectors’ such as probiotics, antioxidants, and other nutrients that can impact our lifespan and delves deep into the power of the human microbiome. His other popular book is The Plant Paradox Cookbook, which follows the same principles as his original work, but provides over 80 easy-to-follow plant-based recipes.

In addition to his books, Dr. Gundry is a media presence with multiple television and radio appearances, interviews, and is the recipient of several awards throughout his career. He also serves on the Scientific Advisory Board of Proadi, and instructs people on how to apply his principles to their daily lives on his personal blog and podcast.

Through his exceptional research and public outreach, Dr. Gundry has become a prolific presence in the health world. His impact has been immense, and his work has been instrumental in helping people make healthier choices. With no signs of slowing down, Dr. Steven R. Gundry’s mission to make the world a healthier place continues to be a success.
