Suk Lee (Editor)
Suk Lee is a Korean-born editor who has established herself as an international leader in the publishing industry. Her passion for literature and her experience in the publishing world have resulted in a prolific and successful career.
Since Lee's education began at Seoul Digital Science High School, it was no surprise to find her majoring in English Literature at Seoul National University. After that, she proceeded to study publishing at the KSW International Academy. Her impressive resume includes positions such as a Korean-Chinese translator, a manuscript editor, and a senior royalty editor in Seoul.
Lee has been no stranger to the international publishing arena. She has served on the board of the Tokyo International Book Fair since 2005, along with founding the Korea Literary Award in 2006 and being invited to the Frankfurt Book Fair as an international invited editor in 2009. Her editing style became very popular, earning her the title of ‘Omnipresent Editor’.
Lee's credits include over 800 books that she has either edited, translated, or assisted in the publishing of. Most of her works have focused on young adult fiction, with her most acclaimed works being the bestsellers ‘The Leopard’s Tail’, ‘A Life of Secret Ambitions’, and ‘My Grandfather’s Death’. She has earned accolades for her work throughout the years, having received the NBF Award for Editing in 2008, the Korea Literature Award for Best Editor in 2014 and 2015, and the Dongwon Best Editor Award in 2015.
Lee's aspirations do not just stop at publishing, having recently been appointed to the Board of International Literature under Seoul’s National Youth Council. Her vision for the council is to support the creativity and ideas of budding writers, giving them an opportunity to develop and explore the world of literature.
The author’s literary career is far from over and has only recently taken an important turn. In 2019, following a tour of the U.K. and Netherlands, Lee announced her own imprint, Suk Lee Publishing, which focuses on fresh voices in the fiction and non-fiction genres. Lee believes her work is as much about nourishing aspiring authors as it is about providing readers with quality stories.
Suk Lee’s publishing career has been nothing short of impressive. Not only has she managed to successfully edit and participate in the publishing of over 800 books, she has also moved forward to establish her own imprint and serve on numerous international boards. As her career continues to blossom, there is no doubt that she will continue to be an international leader in the ever-changing world of books and literature.
