The Culinary Institute of America
The Culinary Institute of America (CIA) is one of the most renowned and respected culinary arts institutions in the world. Founded in 1946, the CIA has educated and trained some of the world’s most prominent chefs, restaurateurs, and food professionals. Its alumnae include Mario Batali, Grant Achatz, Anthony Bourdain, and more. CIA offers diploma and degree programs in core areas of culinary and baking and pastry at its three campuses located in California, Texas, and New York. CIA’s iconic Hyde Park, NY campus offers Associate of Occupational Studies (AOS) degrees in Culinary Arts, Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Arts, Baking and Pastry Arts, and Culinary Science, as well as an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Culinary Arts.
While at CIA, students learn the key principles of culinary arts, including the fundamentals of cuisine, techniques and methods of food preparation, food styling and presentation, plate composition, kitchen management, menu planning, and nutrition. Its faculty members bring decades of experience in the field and share their knowledge with students to bring out their fullest potential.
The CIA is home to multiple learning labs such as the Ocean House Restaurant, a full-service restaurant operated by students and faculty, the Innovation Kitchen, where students and instructors explore new flavors and trends, and the Wine Spectator Wine and Beverage Learning Center, a space dedicated to wine and beverage tastings, sensory evaluation, and food-wine pairing.
In addition to the traditional classroom-style teaching method, CIA offers distance learning courses in the form of online modules, webinars, and e-books. With its vast library, students have access to thousands of books and other resources such as presentations, videos, and masterclasses.
The CIA also hosts various events and food conferences such as The Annual Salute to Famous Alumn, a celebration of the achievements of the alumni, New York City Wine and Food Festival, and many more.
