W. Timothy Gallwey
William Timothy Gallwey is an American author, teacher and speaker known for his book, The Inner Game of Tennis, which has become a classic guide for achieving peak performance in competitive sports and in life.
Gallwey was born in Berkeley, California in 1945. He was a student-athlete during high school, playing both golf and tennis. He would eventually graduate from Harvard University in an English major. Following his collegiate career, Gallwey served in the United States Navy at a weather station in Florida before embarking on his career as an author, teacher, and speaker.
Gallwey's professional life began as an award-winning high school English teacher in California. He later left the profession to write his classic guide, The Inner Game of Tennis, published in 1974. The book was an unprecedented best-seller that sold more than two million copies.
