A Tale of Three Kings by Gene Edwards

"A Tale of Three Kings" by Gene Edwards is a classic in the Christian book world. It is the story of a young shepherd boy named David, who is chosen by God to stand up and be the King of Israel. Drawing from the imagery of the Bible and old Jewish legends, Edwards has created a sweeping epic of power, love and destiny.

The story begins with King Saul, who is ruling Israel in an oppressive and unjust manner. In response to his tyranny, God chooses a young shepherd boy, David, to be his replacement. David quickly makes a name for himself as a brave and skilled fighter, and he soon becomes a national hero. After a series of battles, David ultimately defeats Saul and becomes the new king of Israel.

Although David tries to do what is right and just, he is constantly tormented by his own inner demons and by the temptations of luxury and power. He receives wise counsel from his court prophet, Samuel, and solves many of the problems that were plaguing the Israelites before his reign. As the story progresses, the reader witnesses the development of a mighty kingdom founded upon a foundation of justice and righteousness.

The second king in the story is Solomon, David’s son and successor. Solomon turns out to be a great king, who sets up laws and guidelines as a foundation for an orderly and peaceful kingdom. He is said to be the wisest and wealthiest of all the kings. He establishes peace treaties with other nations, and brings about a period of great prosperity for Israel. Solomon, however, is not immune to weakness. His multiple wives, along with other desires and pressures, slowly lead him away from God, until eventually his descendants fall away from the Lord and Israel is divided among his successors.

The third and final king in the story is Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. He leads a siege on Jerusalem and captures the Israelites, taking them from their homeland into exile. While in exile, the Jews are tested and purified, and eventually return home to Jerusalem. After this experience the Jews of Jerusalem rededicate themselves to the Lord and rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem.
