How May I Help You?: An Immigrant’s Journey from MBA to Minimum Wage by Deepak Singh

Deepak Singh, who was a chef in India before moving to California, had an MB in Commerce and was an established member of the Indian business world.

When Deepak and his family arrived in the United States, Deepak’s hopes of pursuing a job as an accountant dissipated as numerous employers refused him even after attending job interviews. Employment opportunities seemed to be limited, and soon Deepak faced revenue losses. With his family struggling financially in the US, Deepak was resolute to find work.

With no other option in hand and refused a job as an accountant due to his lack of experience in the state, Deepak resigned to take up a job as a cashier in supermarket in California, working 12 hours a day. He faced discouragement from his family and even his own thoughts as he worked at the minimum wage job and was constantly humiliated when customers called him "stupid" and questioned his intellect.

Tired and exhausted, Deepak moved on to work as a hotel janitor, a bus attendant and then a delivery driver. His hard work paid off and eventually he made it big in business. He opened a cake shop of his own, hired employees and even won awards from the local chamber of commerce.

Throughout his journey, Deepak attributes his success with his constant striving to learn and try new things to improve his skills and in turn, live his dream of having a successful career and help his family. His journey has taught him to be humble and to never give up on his dreams. Deepak also serves as an inspiration to many immigrants in the US. He emphasizes the fact that “anything is possible with hard work and perseverance”.

In his book “How may I Help You?”, Deepak’s story is a proof that with enough desire and enthusiasm, anyone can be successful, no matter where they come from or their origin. He also encourages immigrants to pursue their dreams and use their skills to succeed. He emphasizes on the significance of networking, networking, networking and how it can lead to opportunities and reaching goals.

This book is inspiring to anyone, from immigrants to those who are living paycheck to paycheck. Deepak's journey is a testament to the idea that we can make our dreams into reality, no matter how impossible it may seem. His wisdom will forever remain a beacon of hope for those struggling to make their dreams a reality.
