Perfect Is Boring: 10 Things My Crazy, Fierce Mama Taught Me About Beauty, Booty, and Being a Boss by Carolyn London, Tyra Banks

Perfect isn’t really something my mom wraps her head around. With her, it’s all about being fierce, no matter what.

Her mantra? “Embrace life and all its imperfections because perfect is boring.”

And that idea is the essence of my new book, “Perfect is Boring: 10 Things My Crazy, Fierce Mama Taught Me About Beauty, Booty, and Being a Boss.”

In the book I talk about how my mom was the source of my self-confidence by instilling in me the value of remaining true to one’s self.

Read on to get a glimpse of the ten lessons my Mama taught me that transformed my life.

1. Beauty is more than skin deep

My mom taught me that beauty comes in all forms, shapes, sizes, and colors. Everyone is beautiful in their own way and that beauty comes from within. Self-acceptance, self-love, and self-worth should always come first.

2. Booty isn’t everything

My mom always told me to never rely on my looks for validation or acceptance. True beauty, she said, comes from the inside. A strong work ethic, perseverance, and intelligence are the true hallmarks of beauty.

3. You don’t need anyone’s approval

My mother taught me to always be independent, never to rely on anyone else's approval when it comes to my decisions. It’s important to make your own decisions, even if they are unpopular.

4. Be unapologetically yourself

My mama always told me to never be ashamed of who I am. She told me to be unapologetically me: always feel free to express my unique style, interests, and personality.

5. Speak up

My mom never wanted me to be silent in a group; she wanted me to use my voice to speak up and make sure that my ideas are heard.

6. Step out of your comfort zone

My mom always encouraged me to take risks and step out of my comfort zone. She taught me to try new things, take risks, and learn from my mistakes.

7. Every job is an opportunity

My mom taught me to never turn down an opportunity to work, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem. She wanted me to see every job as an opportunity to hone my skills, gain experience, and make connections.

8. Work hard and be humble

My mom made sure I knew that hard work and good results speak for themselves. She taught me to never act superior or cocky, no matter how successful I become.

9. Connect with other women

My mama always said that we are stronger together than apart. She encouraged me to connect with other women and build relationships that help us learn and grow.

10. Always fight for what you believe in

My mom told me to never give up on my dreams, no matter how hard it gets. She told me to always stand up for what I believe in and never give in to the pressures of society.

My book “Perfect is Boring” is a love letter to my Mama, to every woman out there, and to all of the valuable lessons that can be found in her words. I’m hoping this book will help readers realize their own beauty, power, and potential, no matter their imperfections.

Thank you for taking the time to read this summary of my book. I hope you enjoy learning from my Mama’s wise words. Who knows—maybe her lessons will help you become a true boss in life, too.
