The Secret History is a story of the consequences of dabbling in the darker side of life. Richard must face his own emotions of rage, respect, and even sympathy as he attempts to come to terms with the truth behind the group’s actions. It is ultimately a story of friendship, as Richard and the others learn to come to terms with the consequences of their actions while still maintaining their connection with each other.

Tartt does an outstanding job creating a unique and compelling narrative that follows a group of classic scholars, as they grapple with the secrets and secrets that bind them together, and ultimately their own humanity.
