Anne Morriss

Anne Morriss is an award-winning author of fantasy and science fiction novels and short stories. She is best known for her Dark Lands series, which has been praised for its compelling and imaginative world-building. Her novels explore themes of magic and destiny, and her writing has been described as “complex and thrilling.”

Morriss was born in Southern Ontario and began writing as a teenager. She studied creative writing at the University of Toronto and graduated with degrees in literature and linguistics. She was inspired to write speculative fiction after discovering fantasy authors such as Ursula K LeGuin, Patrick Rothfuss, and J.R.R. Tolkien.

Morriss’s first novel, The Blessing of Light, was published in 2010. It is set in the fictional kingdom of Arallon and introduces readers to the magic and mystery of the world. As the novel progresses, the characters learn more about the powerful forces that shape their destinies. It was well-received upon its release and has since become one of her most beloved works.

Morriss’s other works include The Red King’s Daughter (2011), The Heir to the Dark Lands (2012), and The Wolf at the End of the World (2014). These novels form the Dark Lands series and follow protagonist Eliza as she discovers her supernatural powers and destiny while trying to protect her family and kingdom. Eliza’s journey takes her through magical lands and introduces her to a variety of characters. Her strength in the face of danger has made her a fan-favorite protagonist.

Morriss also wrote a short story collection, Imaginary Worlds (2016). In this collection, she explores a variety of speculative fiction genres and stories set in worlds of her own creation. A total of ten stories are featured, ranging from fantasy to science fiction, and all of them showcase her unique writing style and expansive world-building skills.

Morriss has earned numerous accolades for her works. The Blessing of Light won the Aurora Award for best Fantasy Novel in 2011, and The Red King’s Daughter was nominated for the Prix Aurora award for Best Long Form Work in 2013. Morriss’s works have also been published internationally, and she has been featured at multiple conventions such as WisCon and ComicCon.
