Claire Shipman is a critically acclaimed author, journalist, and New York Times bestselling author. She is best known for her books on journalism, politics, and work-life balance.

Shipman was born in 1965 to a business executive father and a career-minded mother. She attended Forest Hill High School in Mississippi and later graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1987. Shipman began her professional career writing for The Washington Post, where she covered the White House for about seven years.

In 2006, Shipman released her first book, The Confidence Code: The Science and Art of Self-Assurance – What Women Should Know, which she co-authored with Katty Kay. This thought-provoking book delves into the idea that women consistently underestimate their abilities and explores how to foster a culture of confidence in girls and women. The book proposes practical ways to break the ”confidence code” and become successful, both in the boardroom and in the home.

In 2009, Shipman released her second book, Women and The Power Of Women: Celebrating The Women Who Changed America. In this one-of-a-kind biography, Shipman celebrates more than 100 of the most, accomplished and powerful women in US history. Covering the most significant eras in US History, the book highlights the trailblazing women who have helped shape America in a variety of ways, including arts, literature, and politics.

In 2011, Shipman wrote her third book, Womenomics: The Business Of Keeping Women In the Workplace. Published in the Harvard Business Review, Shipman examines the social and economic effects of women in the workplace and explains how evolution and economics intersect in business. The book was ultimately published in 2013 by Crown Business. It argues that women are disproportionately affected by layoffs and outsourcing, and that investments in women’s education, health, and economic development can improve economic growth.

In 2016, Shipman released her fourth book, The New Girls Network: A Story Of Female Empowerment, which she wrote with Katty Kay. The book is based on their extensive international research and covers the important topics of female empowerment, mentoring programs, and women-focused business strategies.

Shipman currently lives in Washington, DC and continues to write regularly for The Washington Post. She also frequently contributes to TED Talks, the BBC and The New York Times. Shipman has been a speaker at several conferences and universities, including Smith College, The Aspen Institute and The Sundance Institute. In 2017, The British Council invited her to be part of the Global Assembly of Emerging Women Leaders.

Shipman has come a long way since her 2006 debut book and continues to empower women through her work. She is a source of inspiration for many, offering much-needed advice on how to unlock the confidence held within each woman and turn the tables on power dynamics. Her books provide readers with insight into those who paved the way for today’s generation of women and offer viable solutions on how to take confidence to the next level.
