Dr. Astro Teller
Dr. Astro Teller is an entrepreneur, scientist, and author. He is the CEO of X, Alphabet's "moonshot factory," which creates radical technologies to solve the world’s biggest problems.
Teller has always had an interest in disruptive technology. After completing his bachelor's in computer science and engineering from Princeton University, he went on to pursue a Ph.D. in symbolic and heuristic computation from Stanford University. He then began his career as an entrepreneur, founding the company BodyMedia in 1999, which he eventually sold off.
In 2003, Teller co-founded Cerebellum Capital, a quantitative hedge fund. He was soon named a senior supporter for Singularity University, an idea incubator founded by Ray Kurzweil and Peter Diamandis in 2008. As an advisor to Epic Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm, he further explored his idea of radical technology and the potential impact it could have on the world.
In 2010, Teller joined Google X (now known as X) where he served as Captain of Moonshots. During his five-year tenure, he was responsible for launching several of the projects, including the Google self-driving car, improved wireless power and Project Loon. He left Google X in 2015.
In 2017, Teller released his book “Glimmer: How Designing Radical Technologies Can Change the World.” He argued that big problems can be solved by thinking radically and looking to the future. He cited an example of how design, coupled with technology, can be used to address global health issues.
Teller spoke on numerous podcasts, including The Tim Ferriss Show, TED Talks, and DLD Talks to discuss “Glimmer.” In 2020, he and his wife, Danielle Teller, released a book, “The Art of Impossible: A Peak Performance Primer,” which provides the reader with a plan to achieve extraordinary goals and fulfill their dreams.
Currently, Teller is working on a documentary series, “The Moonshot Series,” that takes us inside some of the most innovative projects in the world as he speaks to leading visionaries who are reshaping our future. Teller continues to advocate for the power of radical technology and design, and how together they can be used to address major global challenges.
