Ken Robinson

Ken Robinson is an internationally renowned educator, author and speaker. A member of the “Order of the British Empire”, Robinson has delivered over 5,000 lectures on creativity and education to leading institutions and organizations in more than 50 countries. He is best known for his book “Out of Our Minds: Learning To Be Creative”, which has sold over a million copies in 40 languages.

Robinson was born in 1950 in England. He attended an all-boys school, not distinguishable from many of its class at the time, until one day when the nun who ran it declared to the class that some of them simply weren’t suitable for higher education. With his self-confidence shakin, and inspired by a teacher at the school to never give up pursuing what he loved, Robinson attended the University of London and earned a degree in sociology and psychology.

Robinson began his career as a teacher and later became head of the education board at Warrington. He served as advisor to the British government on educational issues, including the introduction of the National Curriculum. He was a professor at the University of Warwick until 2003, when he gave a TED Talk that became the most viewed video TED talk of all time.

In “Out of Our Minds”, Robinson argues that the current educational system focuses too much on teaching students to memorize facts without understanding them or learning how to think creatively. Robinson believes that we should focus on helping students develop their creativity and innate gifts, forgetting the outdated concept of intelligence tests. He also advocates for developing students’ self-confidence and using a “growth mind-set” to help them challenge themselves and explore the unknown.

In his other books and lectures, Robinson discusses the importance of diverse learning environments and the need for teachers to understand the unique ways their students learn and to tailor the educational experience accordingly. He also examines the value of arts, music and other creative pursuits in education, and he advocates for systemic changes that recognize the non-academic but nevertheless important contributions of students.

Robinson’s views on education have influenced the way schools around the world shape their curricula, and in 2018 he was recognized by UNESCO for his continued efforts to push for improvements in education. He has come to be known as a leading voice in education today, and his work continues to inspire students and educators around the world.

With his inimitable style and wit, Robinson has redefined what it means to be an educator. He continues to promote the value of creativity, innovation, and critical thinking in education, and has successfully demonstrated how embracing diversity and empowering students can help them reach their full potential in the 21st century.
