Mark Reiter

Mark Reiter is an American author and co-author of several books in genres ranging from apocalyptic horror and science fiction to historical fiction and crime fiction. He is best known for his dark, suspenseful and wickedly clever crime thrillers, many of which have been featured in national media outlets such as People magazine, USA Today, and Mystery Scene Magazine.

Reiter was born outside of Chicago and attended college at University of Wisconsin-Madison and California State University – Fullerton. After receiving a bachelor's degree in creative writing and English literature, he moved to Seattle to pursue writing. He eventually found success as the co-author of numerous novels, including Silent Prey, Stranger in Paradise, and The Killing Zone. The latter two were selected as runner-up for the prestigious 2018 Shamus Award for best original paperback from the Private Eyes Writers of America.

Reiter has written many compelling and provocative novels, which cover a wide range of topics and feature believable characters from all walks of life. He is a master at creating complex, unpredictable storylines and never shies away from the frightening aspects of human nature. His books often include deep dives into the criminal underworld of Seattle, weaving together tales of crime, corruption, and redemption in a way that keeps readers on the edge of their seats.

His stand-alone novels include Treat Me Kindly, a coming of age story set against the backdrop of a tumultuous family dynamic; Edge of Ice, a tale of an unexpected journey to the Arctic Circle; and No Time Left, a timely thriller about the race to prevent the spread of a deadly pandemic. Reiter is also the author of the crime-focused It Happens In Seattle series, comprising books such as In for a Penny, A Killing in South Lake Union, and Death Is a Return Ticket.

In addition to his fiction writing, Reiter has published several non-fiction books, including Off the Grid: A Guide to Creating a Perfect Survival Hub in Seattle. He also contributes regularly to online publications, writing columns and musing on the criminal justice system, drug use and misuse, and general crime-related issues.

Reiter's books have earned him praise from well-known authors and reviewers alike. His darker, edgier voice has won over readers, especially those who don't necessarily enjoy the traditional crime fiction genre. With an eye for detail and an ear for dialogue, Reiter consistently creates fascinating stories that leave readers guessing—and eager for his next book.
