Rosabeth Moss Kanter

Rosabeth Moss Kanter is one of the most prominent leaders in management and strategic innovation today. She is renowned for her scholarship and executive leadership in organizations ranging from corporations and non-profit organizations to universities and government agencies.

Kanter has published a long list of influential books, including her classic works of “Men and Women of the Corporation” and her recent “Confidence: How Winning Streaks and Losing Streaks Begin and End.” She is one of the few living Harvard Business School faculty that has won the school's Lifetime Achievement Award.

Kanter was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1943 and graduated with a Ph.D. in Sociology from Harvard University. Before her doctoral studies, Kanter was a student at Bennington College, where she was also a professor. After Bennington, she joined the Harvard Business School as an assistant professor in 1969, where she taught for 38 years before becoming the Ernest L. Arbuckle professor of business administration at the Harvard Business School in 2015. Her expertise in organizational behavior, motivation, and leadership enabled her to helm the program for 20 years.

In addition to her accomplishments in the classroom, Kanter has also consulted and brought her expertise to many Fortune 500 organizations. She was the founder of two consulting firms: the executive coaching firm, Kanter & Associates, and the change management and leadership development firm, Rosser Advertising. Both firms bring her unique perspective to problem solving in different organizations, giving her a unique advantage in the areas of management and strategy.

Kanter has published a vast array of books, articles and white papers on the topics of management and leadership. Some of her most influential works include "Work and the Human Spirit," "When Giants Learn to Dance: Mastering the Challenge of Strategy, Management and Careers," "The Change Masters: Innovations for Productivity in the American Corporation," "Love It, Don't Leave It: 26 Ways to Get What You Want at Work" and "Confidence: How Winning Streaks and Losing Streaks Begin and End.”

Kanter’s scholarship is informed by a wide range of issues and knowledge, from sociology to technology. Her books focus on creating winning strategies, motivating employees, and creating an enduring success. She has won numerous awards for her scholarship, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Harvard Business School and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Women’s Leadership Network.

Kanter is an active member of the Executive Committee of the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering. In addition, she is a fellow of The American Society of Corporate Executives and a member of the National Academy of Sciences.

Kanter's lifelong dedication to the study of management and leadership is highly respected. As a professor, author, and consultant, she has earned numerous awards, including the Harvard Business School's Lifetime Achievement Award, the Women’s Leadership Network's Lifetime Achievement Award, and the National Academy of Sciences’ Lifetime Achievement Award. Her works have informed the study of management and leadership for decades, and her influence and knowledge will continue to shape leadership scholarship for years to come.
